Overview

Vented screw barrels are designed to enable efficient devolatilization by creating a controlled pressure release zone within the extrusion process.

By operating under partial-fill conditions, the melt expands at the vent opening, increasing surface exposure and facilitating the removal of entrapped air, moisture and volatile components. The venting system supports both atmospheric and vacuum operation, enabling multi-stage degassing from surface moisture removal to deep volatile extraction.

Optimized vent geometry combined with specialized vent inserts ensures effective gas-solid separation while minimizing the risk of material carry-over or vent flow. High-precision sealing systems are applied for vacuum operation to maintain stable negative pressure conditions.

Key Features

Efficient devolatilization capability
Supports vacuum venting
Controlled partial fill operation
Improves melt quality

Design & Technical Insights

Effective degassing depends on melt surface exposure, pressure reduction and residence time.
Proper coordination with upstream conveying elements is critical to avoid material leakage.
