Overview

TME mixing screw elements are composed of intermeshing toothed discs, designed to split and recombine melt flow repeatedly.

They incorporate forward and reverse teeth arranged in matched pairs, ensuring proper intermeshing of the twin screws and avoiding mechanical interference during assembly.

Unlike conveying screw elements, TME provides no net conveying capability, focusing entirely on distributive mixing.

Key Features

Flow Splitting & Recombination

Creates multiple flow paths for efficient material redistribution.

Excellent Distributive Mixing

Ensures uniform dispersion of fibers and additives.

Optimized Tooth Geometry

Ensures controlled flow splitting through coordinated forward–reverse interaction.

Targeted Mixing Control

Allows tuning of mixing intensity.

Design & Technical Insights

Tooth geometry creates multi-stream flow
Continuous split–recombine melt flow
No conveying → longer residence in mixing zone
Engineering principle

Geometric flow division rather than shear-based mixing

Q&A

Q1: Why is TME suitable for glass fiber?

A: It provides strong distribution without excessive shear, preserving fiber length.

Q2: Can forward and reverse teeth be used independently?

A: No, they must be used in matched pairs to ensure proper intermeshing and avoid mechanical interference.
